2024 Uptown Art Walk

The 5th Annual Uptown Art Walk returns Saturday, June 8th - 2024. This event showcases Uptown’s public art scene and features new murals going up on walls around the neighborhood, art exhibits being hosted by local businesses, the Uptown Art Fair, interactive art activities for all ages, and the Clifton Avenue Block Party.

UPTOWN ART FAIR
The Uptown Art Fair at Wilson Abbey will feature artwork for viewing and purchase from local artists. Drop by the Art Fair anytime between the hours of 10:00am – 4:00pm on June 8th at 935 W Wilson Avenue (enter through Everybody's Coffee).

GIVEAWAY ALERT: The first 100 people to stop by the Uptown Booth at the fair will receive a complimentary pass for admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art (each pass is good for 2 people).

CLIFTON AVENUE BLOCK PARTY
On June 8th, Clifton Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic between Wilson Avenue and North Broadway and interactive and family-focused art activities, treats, and games coordinated by Cornerstone Community Outreach.

UPTOWN ART PROCESSION

Come by the Winthrop Family Historical Garden (4628 N Winthrop Avenue) with your family in making art for a carnivalesque procession. Visit make-up artists, share refreshments and then join in on a real-life, merrymaking procession with musicians, fire-dancers, tumblers, costumes, instruments, and all sorts of silliness. Gather community members along the way and process through the Uptown art walk to bring a festive, jubilant flair as well as fanfare to the artists, as they beautify the neighborhood with their murals. 11am artmaking and refreshments begin and continue until 2:30pm. Processions take place at: 11:30am, 1pm and 2:30pm.

UNSUNG HEROES OF UPTOWN

“Unsung Heroes of Uptown: Art of People ON the Streets IN the Streets,” is a public art show of portraits of remarkable Uptowners under the radar in 31 JCDecaux bus shelters in Uptown as well as around Chicago. It is the result of a unique collaboration between Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and JCDecaux, the larger outdoor advertising company in the world, based just outside of Paris. The artwork is arranged so it is possible to see all 5 portraits within an easy walking distance. There is a QR code to scan and listen to as you look at each portrait. Laugh, move, have fun and be fit and healthy! Hula hooping is a playful and positive cardio workout option for all ages and body types. Perfect for men, women, children, expecting mothers (with special pregnancy hoops) etc.
This class will introduce the basics of hula hooping and The HoopFit® Workout that fuses hooping with familiar cardio exercises. We will cover hooping at the waist, hips, and off the body basics. Come wearing comfortable clothes; yoga attire is perfect.
Adult hoops will be provided, or bring your own.
